The cancellation was applied on an Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav postcard.
Raj Kapoor (born 14 December 1924) was one of the most iconic figures in the history of Indian cinema. Known as the 'Greatest Showman of Bollywood', he acted in, produced, and directed some of the most beloved Hindi films ever made. Films like Awaara (1951), Shree 420 (1955), and Mera Naam Joker (1970) not only resonated with Indian audiences but also achieved massive popularity in the Soviet Union and other countries. His portrayals often blended romance, social commentary, and idealism, reflecting the hopes and anxieties of post-independence India. As the head of R.K. Films, one of the oldest film production studios in India, he nurtured generations of talent. India Post issued this special cancellation on what would have been his 100th birth anniversary, as part of a nationwide celebration of his cultural legacy and contribution to Indian cinema.
