The cancellation was applied on an Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav postcard with '100 Years Mohammed Rafi' written in Hindi and English.
Mohammed Rafi (born 24 December 1924) is widely regarded as one of the most versatile and gifted playback singers in the history of Hindi film music. Over his career spanning more than three decades, he lent his voice to thousands of songs across a remarkable range of genres, from devotional hymns and romantic ballads to patriotic anthems and folk tunes. His collaborations with music directors like Shankar-Jaikishan, S.D. Burman, Naushad, and Laxmikant-Pyarelal produced many of the most beloved songs in Indian cinema. Rafi received the Padma Shri in 1967 and numerous Filmfare Awards during his career. He passed away on 31 July 1980, but his voice continues to resonate deeply with listeners across generations. India Post released this special cancellation on what would have been his 100th birth anniversary, as a tribute to his enduring contribution to India's musical and cultural heritage.
