This is a set of four Special Cancellations issued by Anna Road Head Post Office (Philatelic Bureau), Chennai, Tamil Nadu, PIN 600002, dated 13 February 2025 to commemorate Maha Kumbha Mela 2025. Each circular cancellation depicts a different scene from the Maha Kumbha: a sacred Banyan tree with Kalash, pilgrims bathing in the Ganga, saints meditating, and a Kumbha Mela camp. Applied on 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav' postcards bearing an Atal Bihari Vajpayee stamp. Issued as a matched set of four.
Maha Kumbha Mela 2025 was held at Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, from January 13 to February 26, 2025. It is the largest religious gathering in the world, held every 12 years at the Triveni Sangam (confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers). The 2025 edition was considered especially significant as it fell during a rare planetary alignment and was termed a Maha (Great) Kumbha Mela. India Post issued special cancellations from multiple post offices across India to mark the occasion. The Chennai Philatelic Bureau issued a matched set of four cancellations, each depicting a different facet of the Kumbha Mela tradition.
