This is a Permanent Pictorial Cancellation (PPC) issued by Kanchipuram Head Post Office, Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu, PIN 631501, inaugurated on 18 April 2023. The circular cancellation design features the Chakravaha (swan motif) from the Ekambareswar Temple, Kanchipuram. The cancellation is currently active.
Kanchipuram, one of the seven sacred cities of Hinduism, is located in Tamil Nadu and is renowned for its ancient temples, silk sarees, and rich cultural heritage. The Ekambareswar Temple (also called Ekambaranathar Temple) is one of the five major Shiva temples (Pancha Bhuta Stalas) representing the earth element, and is among the largest temples in the city dating back over 1,500 years. The Chakravaha or swan motif featured in this PPC is a significant artistic element from the temple's iconography. Kanchipuram HO was one of the later Tamil Nadu offices to receive a PPC, inaugurated in 2023, adding to Tamil Nadu's rich collection of permanent pictorial cancellations.
