The Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), headquartered in Coimbatore, is one of India's premier agricultural universities and the oldest in South India. Its origins trace back to 1868, when an Agricultural School was established at Saidapet, Chennai, later relocated to Coimbatore in 1906–1909. The institution became affiliated to the University of Madras in 1920, and until 1946, it served as the sole institute for agricultural education across all of South India. In 1971, it was reconstituted as an autonomous State Agricultural University under the name Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, with Coimbatore as its permanent headquarters. TNAU was the first State Agricultural University in India to receive accreditation from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), and it has since grown into a multi-campus institution with colleges of agriculture, horticulture, agricultural engineering, and home science. The university's historic main building, constructed in the Hindu-Saracenic style between 1907 and 1909, is an architectural landmark. TNAU has played a pivotal role in driving agricultural innovation and the Green Revolution in Tamil Nadu, and this PPC honoring its logo reflects the university's enduring legacy in agricultural education and research.
