The Malampuzha Dam is the largest dam in Kerala, built across the Bharathapuzha River near Palakkad. Constructed between 1955 and 1958, it is a gravity-cum-earthen dam that serves as a vital source of irrigation water for the Palakkad district, one of Kerala's most agriculturally significant regions. The dam and its surrounding garden, the Malampuzha Garden, are among the most popular tourist destinations in Kerala. The Rope Car (Udan Khatola), inaugurated as a unique tourism attraction, is the first of its kind in South India. With 64 cars each carrying two passengers, the ropeway offers a 20-minute aerial ride over the garden and dam reservoir. The Malampuzha Dam SO was specially established at the dam site, and this PPC reflects the cultural and infrastructural significance of this landmark hydroelectric and irrigation project in the history of modern Kerala.
