Permanent Pictorial Cancellation (PPC) issued by Udupi Head Post Office, PIN 576101, Udupi District, Karnataka. This is the new design cancellation depicting the deity of Sri Krishna as enshrined at the Sri Krishna Math (temple) in Udupi, replacing the earlier old design. The design was updated to present a more detailed and refined representation of the deity. Status: Active.
The Sri Krishna Math in Udupi, founded by philosopher-saint Sri Madhvacharya in the 13th century, is one of the most important Vaishnava pilgrimage sites in South India. Lord Krishna is worshipped here in a unique form called 'Bal Gopala' — as a child. The temple is renowned for its 'Paryaya' system where eight maths (monasteries) take turns administering the temple every two years. This system has been maintained for over 700 years. The new design pictorial cancellation was introduced to better capture the divine form of the deity with greater artistic clarity. Udupi's Krishna temple draws hundreds of thousands of devotees annually.
