Permanent Pictorial Cancellation (PPC) issued by Margao Head Office, PIN 403601, South Goa. The cancellation design depicts the Margao Head Post Office Building, a heritage colonial-era structure located in Margao (Madgaon), the commercial capital of South Goa. Introduced on 01 March 2001. Status: Active.
Margao, known as Madgaon in Konkani, is the principal commercial and cultural city of South Goa. The Margao Head Post Office building is a fine example of Portuguese colonial architecture, reflecting Goa's over 450 years of Portuguese rule (1510–1961). Margao served as a major administrative and trading hub during the colonial era. The building stands as a heritage landmark in the city, representing the postal history of the region. Goa was liberated from Portuguese colonial rule in December 1961 through Operation Vijay by the Indian Armed Forces, and the Margao post office has since continued to serve as a vital communication centre for South Goa.
