Historical Significance

The Tirumala Venkateswara Temple, situated on the Tirumala hills in the Eastern Ghats of Andhra Pradesh, is one of the most visited and wealthiest religious institutions in the world. Dedicated to Lord Venkateswara (an avatar of Vishnu), the temple draws millions of pilgrims annually from across India and the world. The Tirupati Head Post Office serves the temple town at the foothills, a major urban centre that has developed to support the pilgrimage. The Sankhu and Chakra are among the most sacred icons associated with Vaishnava tradition, and their inclusion in the cancellation design reflects the deep spiritual identity of the region. The PPC commemorates both the architectural grandeur of the Gopuram and the sacred symbolism of the deity's divine weapons.
