The Thiruvananthapuram ISRO Sub Office is located within the campus of the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), India's premier space technology development centre. Named after Dr. Vikram Sarabhai, the father of the Indian space programme, VSSC has been the birthplace of many of India's satellite launch vehicles including the PSLV and GSLV. The coconut tree in the cancellation design represents Kerala's landscape, while the rocket symbolizes India's space aspirations. This PPC, introduced in 1977, is one of the earliest ISRO-related philatelic commemorations in India.
