The Kamakhya Devi Temple, one of the 51 Shakti Peethas, is dedicated to the goddess Kamakhya and is among the oldest and most revered temples in India. Situated atop the Nilachal Hills overlooking the Brahmaputra river in Guwahati, it is a major pilgrimage centre for both Hindu and Tantric traditions. The temple is especially significant for Tantric worship and is the site of the famous Ambubachi Mela, an annual fertility festival that draws hundreds of thousands of pilgrims. The temple's history dates back to at least the 8th century and it serves as a symbol of Assam's deep spiritual and cultural heritage
